This piece was written for the Easter service of the church I am a choral scholar at. When my choir director, Mark Reed, asked me to write a piece for said service, he had given me multiple readings that would be read. The one that spoke to me the most was the one about Moses. Normally, we sing a specific arrangement of Go Down Moses every year, but I had this particular motif in my head that kept replaying in my head. That motif later became the beginning of the piece.
